Officials at the Ministry of Health have switched into action mode as the first two cases of the Zika virus are confirmed in St Lucia.

A 25 year-old man and a 28-year-old woman are St.Lucia’s first confirmed cases of the Zika virus. The Ministry of Health has been educating the public about the Zika virus since its spread throughout South America and the Caribbean.

Medical Health officer, Sharon Bellmare George and medical surveillance officer Ms.Michelle François says the ministry is tackling the issue head on.

Assistant chief Claudius Prospere environmental health officer urged the public to take preventative measures

The Ministry advised members of the public to wear long sleeved shirts and long pants, sleep with fans and nets and use EPA registered insect repellents.
