The St. Lucia-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) will end 2013 with a formal reception to mark its 9th Anniversary and a General Meeting to elect a new leadership that will adopt a Plan of Action for 2014, the year of its 10th Anniversary.

Those were among the main decisions taken at a gathering of members, applicants and prospective members on Monday, November 11th 2013, at the CSA Centre in Castries, to discuss issued related to the association’s activities in 2014.

The meeting heard a lengthy report on matters related to the association’s period of relative public silence between 2007 and 2013, as well as activities undertaken since the recent revival of its public activities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the SLCFA and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) entered into in 2005 was also discussed, as well as propositions for consideration in rebuilding the association’s wide historical membership base.

The meeting also agreed to observe the association’s 9th Anniversary with a formal ‘Members Only’ reception at a select Chinese Restaurant on Tuesday, November 26th, to which only re-registered members will be invited.

Tuesday’s meeting appointed a 6-member Task Force to plan and prepare for a major SLCFA General Meeting on December 2nd 2013, where a proposed Plan of Action for 2014 will be presented for discussion and adoption.

Bousquet says the association’s 2014 activities “will take place against the background of increasing positive contact between China and Taiwan and at a time when St. Lucia’s relations with Taiwan have entered a new phase.”
