There is no shortage of reaction to a twenty five dollar charge imposed by RBC Royal Bank on their savings account holders. The measure took effect here on Monday.

One of the bank’s clients Esther Jn Marie recounted her experience with the financial institution when she decided to close her account on Wednesday morning.

She claims to have been informed by a teller that her account which had been dormant was now depleted and that she was now owing the bank over one hundred dollars in penalty fees.

Jn Marie says the twenty five dollar fee is only an addition to a five dollar charge on savings account holders whose balances are below one hundred dollars.

Jn Marie claims that she was further informed by the teller that the twenty five dollar charge would continue to accrue if she does not close the savings account.

Jn Marie stressed that the development has caught her and many other St Lucian account holders by surprise. She is also confused as to why a savings account has become such a costly asset.
