Fisherfolk throughout St Lucia have come together for the celebration of the Annual Fishermen’s Feast that began with a church service.

But the event which includes several fun and fraternal elements, according to the Manager of the Castries Fishermen’s Cooperative Arthur Lynch, has also brought into focus, the absence of appreciation for their contribution to rural development and the economy.

Lynch believes that there is room for improvement in the level of recognition for fishermen, that is commensurate with their role in society. He adds that the observance today provides an opportunity for fishermen for them to be celebrated among their peers.

A series of activities is being hosted at the Union orchid garden to celebrate fishermen’s feast. It is the culmination of several events which were held in the run up to the official observance.

Fishermen’s feast is observed annually in June
