The Minister for Education has allayed public fears about a possible discontinuation of government assistance to students.

At a news conference on Thursday Dr Gale Rigobert informed that the government will continue some of the education initiatives started by the previous government.

Dr. Rigobert confirmed that the government will continue to provide students entering secondary school with a one-off $500 bursary to assist with educational expenses.

She added that the one laptop per child programme is another initiative which the government plans to continue.

The Minister noted that the government is committed to giving its full support to such educational initiatives

The bursary programme began in 2012.
