One man is dead following a shooting in Morne Du Don last night.

Police Press Officer Gregory Alexander says Kimran Jameson, succumbed to his injuries at hospital after a vehicle in which he and two other men were travelling came under gunfire shortly before 9 pm.

Meanwhile, Alexander reports that one Police officer who was wounded in an encounter with a mentally deranged individual over the weekend in Vieux Fort is said to have narrowly escaped an injury that could have left him permanently disfigured.

The officer was reportedly seeking to restrain the mentally unstable man who was armed with a cutlass, from wounding his father, when the lawman came under attack.

Alexander adds that several attempts to stop the cutlass wielding man with a bean bag gun was futile. He was eventually subdued after he was shot in the leg.

Meanwhile the Press Officer informed that the bravery of a minibus driver has resulted in a narrow escape from five male passengers who held him at gun point inside his vehicle this morning.

Alexander has urged members of the public to report information that could eventually lead to the arrest of criminals.

Alexander stressed that the crime fighting strategy being used by the RSLPF is intelligence driven.
