There has been a negative reaction from the Vieux Fort General and Dock Workers union to the shift of the loading zone for bananas on Geest Line Vessels to the Castries Seaport.

According to a joint press release issued weeks ago , the loading operation which currently take place at the Vieux Fort Port took effect today.

It is being reported that the moves is as a result of operational and economic efficiency. But the President of the Southern union Athanatius Dolor says efforts have been made to avert the implications that the decision has for dock workers.

He indicates that the matter has been brought to the attention of Prime Minister Allen Chastanet but to date, he has failed to respond.

Dolor says while the intention is to ease financial pinch for the cargo vessel, other considerations for the livelihood of dock workers have been overlooked.

Meanwhile SLASPA says Stakeholder sensitization of the change has continued as the organisations seek to ensure that all parties are adequately informed and prepared for this relocation.
