A former top cop has given credence to a claim made by the National Security Minister suggesting that that some parents are engaged in the prostitution of their teenage daughters.

Hermangild Francis, who was himself a former Deputy Police Commissioner, made the statement last week while addressing reporters on the alleged rape of a twelve year old who is now pregnant.

Speaking on the issue during Monday’s Newsspin program, Cuthbert Philips stressed that the problem is more acute in certain areas where youth are disadvantaged and vulnerable.

Philips has put forward a recommendation for the establishment of a vice squad, if authorities are to seriously crack down on the social problem.

Philips believes that the situation is allowed to persist because those involved are in need of money.
