A police shooting that left a motorcyclist injured in the leg has been described as excessive and unwarranted by a former cop.

The incident which occurred in Babonneau on Monday has been drawing much attention and debate from the public on whether the officer acted within the law.

Reports suggest that the motorcyclist who had allegedly collided with the off duty police officer’s vehicle was fleeing the scene, disregarding the lawman’s attempts to stop him.

Norbert Williams who has weighed in on the situation says the suspect’s attempt to escape was no reason for the officer to discharge his firearm.

Meanwhile another caller to newsspin cited a section of the criminal code to support the argument for the use of firearms by police.
