Tourism officials here are raving the success of the growing yachting sector, which now includes that Karibik Trophy Regatta.

A welcome ceremony to mark the start of sailing event was held on Monday at the Pigeon Island National Landmark from 7-9pm. 

The Regatta comprises members belonging to famous sailing clubs, individual sailors and Press and consist of about twenty boats and one hundred and twenty participants. They were treated to an evening of fun and entertainment, which included local cuisine, steel pan music and performances by the Silver Shadows Dancers.

Speaking at Monday evening’s event Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee welcomed the contingent and thanked the Managing Director of the German Regatta for choosing to start in St Lucia. 

While the Karibik Trophy is into its 27th year, it is the first time that the German sailing event is being hosted in St Lucia. Fedee stressed the need to maximize the opportunity to showcase St Lucia.

Fedee stressed that several plans are being considered for the expansion and strengthening of yachting and other marine facilities around the island
