The details of an agreement with Chinese developer Desert Star Holdings regarding a multi million dollar project earmarked for Vieux Fort continues to fuel contention between the government and the opposition.

Amendments have been made to the original plan by the Allen Chastanet government—a move that the Opposition St Lucia Labour Party says highly favours the developer and is bad for St Lucia.

A news conference which was called by the SLP detailed the reasons for their assertions. Dr Ernest Hilaire who called in to Thursday’s newsspin program, cited a particular section of the arrangement that he believes set St Lucia at a distinct disadvantage, if the deal does not go as planned.

He stressed that several of the developer’s original demands that were scrapped during negotiations with the former SLP government, have now been added in the new agreement.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has reacted to public concerns about the DSH deal. During an appearance on Talk with Rick Wayne, on Thursday night Mr Chastanet stressed that DSH is not in a position to move forward with its plan under the current arrangement.

While the government has promised to call a news conference to provide further clarity on the DSH deal, no clear date has been set.
