Several changes have been made to the format of the annual celebration highlighting the accomplishments of St Lucia’s two Nobel laureates.

The event which will run from January to early February has been called the Nobel Laureates Festival and will include a number of performances by local groups

Coordinator of the Nobel Laureates Festival Delia Dolor says the activity will be held under the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence: Fostering National Pride’ in an effort to remind citizens at home and abroad of the “excellence” of the nation.

She observes that strong efforts have been put into making the event more inclusive and to invite participation from all St Lucians.

Dolor adds that special focus will be made on the accomplishments of Sir Arthur Lewis who won the Nobel prize for Economics and the works of Derek Walcott who won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The birthday of the two laureates, January 23rd has been earmarked for the official launch of the 2017 Nobel Laureates Festival.

The launch will begin at 10:30 a.m. promptly and will be attended by Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of Saint Lucia and Chair of the Nobel Laureate Festival Committee.
