The launch of the Caribbean Red Cross Zika Project that will also take place in ten other regional states took place here today.

It is expected to reduce transmission of the mosquito borne zika virus, and educating people on sustainable practices to reduce the spread of the virus.

Communications officer at the Red Cross, Marva Oculien, specific communities have been handpicked by the Red Cross in collaboration with the Ministry of Health for the project. They include Babonneau/Balata, Au Leon Dennery, Anse La Raye, Bexon, Riviere Mittan/Monchy and Mabouya valley.

Oculien notes that the program will focus on training sessions for volunteers who will be leading the project in the selected communities.

Oculien informs that the Red Cross Mobile app will play a significant role in the hands-on information program through the use of mobile phones.
