Customs officials are celebrating a historical milestone today as the department moves to facilitate trade.

It comes on the occasion of International Customs Day which is observed annually on January 26th

According to the Deputy Comptroller of Customs Ava Marius, continuous efforts are being made to allow goods to leave the border. She notes that the process can affect the ease of doing business and every part of economic development.

The theme for this year’s observance is Data Analysis for effective border management. It was chosen to encourage customs officials to pursue efforts and activities in data management and analysis.

A number of activities have been planned to mark the observance and to raise public awareness about the role that the Customs Department plays.

Marius stressed that the role of other support agencies to the Customs Department is also being highlighted.

An Open Day activity for members of the public began earlier today at the Customs Air Cargo Shed at Vigie. Information on the clearance process will be disseminated.
