There have been no reports of damage or injury following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked St Lucia on Friday.

The confirmation comes from the Director of NEMO Velda Joseph, who informed that the department was contacted by the seismic research unit of the University of the West Indies last week.

Joseph has informed that a national earthquake response protocol is in place for St Lucia. She stressed that the public must be on guard for the possibility of tsunamis that can be triggered in the aftermath of an earthquake.

Although no timeline has been predicted, researchers have revealed that the Caribbean region is due for a major earthquake and tsunami
