The Mayor of Castries is urging for public cooperation and partnership with city police in the fight against petty crime against locals and visitors.

The call for patriotism comes ahead of independence celebrations here.

Peterson Francis was making reference to an alleged chain snatching incident involving a visitor that occurred in Castries last week.

The Mayor called on citizens to demonstrate their patriotism by working with city patrol officers in guarding the tourism product.

Francis describes the theme of the 38th anniversary of independence, “I am St Lucia” as fitting and appropriate,as citizens seek to strengthen their commitment to nation building.

He has also called for a public pledge to assist City Police Officers with their mandate.
