A ban imposed by local health officials on corned beef imported into St Lucia from Brazil is likely to be lifted soon.

That’s according to the Acting Director of Commerce Guillaum Simon who informed that the restrictions on the product are in keeping with developments both in the region and around the world.

News of the ban came last week amid suspicions that the product was possibly contaminated with rotten meat.

Simon noted that health officials and other stakeholders are meeting to take a collective position on the issue in light of new information.

Simon indicates that the ban on corned beef from Brazil will likely be lifted, once officials are satisfied that it is safe for consumption.

Barbados, Chile and Egypt are among countries that have lifted their ban on corned beef from Brazil.
