Saint Lucia along with the World Health Organization will be leading a one year global campaign on depression.

The announcement was made during activities to mark the global observance here on April 7th at the National Mental Wellness Centre. It took place under the theme Depression, let’s talk.

Senior Medical Officer Dr. Sharon Belmar-George gave an insight on the goals of the campaign.

She also stated the objective of this campaign is to strengthen capacity, build awareness, and help reduce the impact of depression.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Wellness Sen. Mary Isaac says, the stigma associated with depression prevents individuals from seeking and accessing treatment and care. She adds that the situation does not allow people to live healthy productive lives.

Health officials have urged the public to call 203 to access help with depression.
