A weekend eruption of the Kick’em Jenny Volcano off the coast of Grenada does not pose any significant threat to the region.

The confirmation comes from the Seismic Research Unit of the University of the West Indies which has reported increased activity at the volcano.

According to the UWI-SRC, Kick 'em Jenny erupted on the evening of Saturday, April 29, 2017 and reports suggest that the eruption was felt in northern Grenada.

The NEMO Director in St Lucia Velda Joseph has however informed that currently, there is no Tsunami threat to Saint Lucia as a result of the heightened activity of Kick 'em Jenny.

The Nemo director also stressed that there is no risk of volcanic activity in St Lucia and the rest of the region because the volcanoes are not connected.

However, NEMO officials remain in close contact with authorities in Grenada and the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre and will provide updates on the situation as necessary.
