Individuals suffering with hypertension will receive free screenings and testing as part of activities to observe World Hypertension Day.

The exercise is being coordinated by the St Lucia Hypertension and Diabetes Association as Saint Lucia joins the rest of the world in the global commemoration on May 17th.

The purpose of the World hypertension day is to promote public awareness of hypertension and to encourage citizens of all countries to prevent and control the silent killer.

Volunteer at the St Lucia Diabetes and Hypertension Association Morgan Cyril also noted that lifestyle changes and treatment can help control high blood pressure to reduce the risk of life-threatening complications.

World Hypertension Day was first observed in May 2005 and has become an annual event ever since.
