The South Calypso Tent is set to open with what organizers say are eleven electrifying performances from both seasoned and new acts.

The event opens on Saturday June 3rd under the theme Long Live Calypso at the national Cultural Centre.

Director and Tent Leader of the South Calypso tent Tony Wilkinson says the weekend offering is expected to add momentum to the calypso hype.

Wilkinson stressed that patrons can expect to see a matched level of consistency to the performances of the Take Over Village which opened on Wednesday this week.

Noticeable absent from the South tent cast is three time calypso monarch Minelle who will not be a contender in this year’s competition.

Meanwhile the general public will get an opportunity to sample some of the biggest soca hits for 2017 when the weekly Friday night street party opens in Gros Islet this evening.

It comes free of charge to the public.
