Organizers of the Soufriere Carnival are getting support for reveller participation from the business sector in staging the community leg of the festival.

It comes in the form of a recommendation by the St Lucia Chamber of Commerce, encouraging the corporate community to allow time off from work for individuals who have signed up with bands in the Soufriere carnival.

The event is slated for this coming Sunday and Monday in the western town.

Executive Director at the Chamber Brian Louisy says however that the decision for leave is left to the employer’s discretion.

Louisy notes however that while the absence of staff will impact productivity in the workplace, as Monday next week is not a public holiday. But he says employers who are able to, are being encouraged to take the risk.

Pointing to the arrangements in place for workers participating in the National carnival, Louisy says, time off is also granted to workers at the discretion of employers on carnival Tuesday, which is not a bank holiday.

The 2017 National Carnival is slated for July 17th and 18th .
