The local sporting fraternity is in celebratory mode following what is being described as a remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

This after 15 year old Julien Alfred captured the gold in the girl’s under-18 100m dash with a time of 11.56 seconds.

She had earlier won her heat in 12.02 seconds and the semi-final with 11.80 seconds.

Speaking following the performance Sports administrator Terry Finisterre says Alfred has been stamping her presemnce on the track and is now one of the leading juniors in the world.

He adds that her latest feat puts her on course to compete at the Olympic level.

Finisterre boasts that Alfred is one of the fastest Juniors that St Lucia has ever produced. He stressed that if she continues to pursue a career in track she will join other established and successful athletes such as Levern Spencer and Janelle Scheper.

Meanwhile The young athlete has received a commendation from the Commonwealth Games Federation regional vice-president for the Caribbean Fortuna Belrose.
