Claims of piracy on the Vieux Fort route continues to heavily impact legitimate minibus operators transporting commuters to and from the south of the island.

The fresh concerns were raised by the President of the Vieux Fort Castries Minibus association Philip Jn Baptiste who stressed that the members are ready to take the law into their own hands if an intervention is not forthcoming from local authorities.

Jn Baptiste explained that the matter has been brought to the attention of the police as well as the transport department on several occasions, but unauthorized minibus drivers continue to operate on the Vieux Fort Bus stand.

Meanwhile Jn Bpatiste has commended police for their swift action in apprehending a burglar who is believed to have been involved in a string of break-ins on the Vieux Fort bus stand.

He notes that operators who have been robbed of cash and electronics over the last few months breathed a sigh of relief when the alleged perpetrator was caught red handed on Monday.

About eight minibus operators have fallen victim to burglars while pegged on the Vieux Fort bus stand.
