The island’s Minister for Infrastructure has urged for a comprehensive plan of action that will seek to mitigate the number of road accidents occurring here.

Mr Philip J Pierre made the call on Thursday during a meeting with stakeholders and media personnel that sought to address growing concerns about the number of road fatalities recorded in St Lucia so far for this year.

Pointing to statistics on road accidents and fatalities Mr Pierre says there is a need for personal responsibility on the part of drivers and other road users for their own safety.

Meanwhile the Permanent Secterary in the Ministry of Infrastructure has pointed out that there is need for an empirical study to be conducted into the causes of road fatalities occurring here.

This comes on the basis of statistics that indicate that the ratio of road accidents between men and woman is 5 to 1.
