The island’s Minister for Culture was on the receiving end of strong criticism over the government’s treatment of a local contingent to Carifesta.

It came from a former Executive Director at the CDF, Kennedy Samuel, during Wednesday’s Newsspin program which featured, Senator Fortuna Belrose.

Samuel confronted the Minister on governments approach to the issue, describing it as unsettling, since the artistes would be on national duty.

Uncertainty had surrounded St Lucia’s participation as government announced that it would not cover the local contingent’s travel and other fees. It was later disclosed that government had agreed to cover part of the costs.

Samuel says it is a serious disappointment that St Lucia is not represented by an organized contingent, but rather groups of artistes who have individually paid their own way to Barbados.
