After many years of planning, strategising and working progressively as a committee officials at the department of Sustainable Development have announced Government’s support for the biosafety bill.

As per Cabinet Conclusion #316 of 2017, the Government of Saint Lucia has endorsed the draft Biosafety Policy and issued instructions to the Attorney General’s Chambers to complete the Biosafety Bill and Regulations.

Saint Lucia has signalled its commitment to the regulation of the products of modern biotechnology that will call for closer inspection of consumables to ensure that they are safe to human health and the environment.

Sustainable Development and environment officer Jannel Gabriel explains.

The public will be given a further opportunity to comment on the Draft Biosafety Bill on 13th July, 2017, at a public consultation to be held in the Conference Room of the Fisheries Division, from 9:00 am - 12:00. If you are able to attend please respond to this email for further information.
