HURRICANE Harvey killed at least five people in Texas as its deadly flooding continues to devastate the United States.

Harvey hit Texas on Friday as a terrifying category 4 hurricane – one of the biggest to batter the US mainland in more than a decade.

The deadly storm ravaged the Gulf Coast with storm surges, flash flooding and devastating winds along the coast and further inland.

The centre of the storm is slowly making its way southeastward near the Texas Coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Harvey has slightly picked up in speed and is travelling at a speed of 5 mph (7 km/h).

“Catastrophic and life-threatening” flooding continues to wreak havoc in the southeastern parts of Texas.
