Plans are underway to renovate and modernize the Castries market to include the fish, meat, provision and craft areas.

The disclosure comes from Prime Minister Allen Chastanet during a tour of the facility last week, as he noted the need to put the facility on par with others in the region.

According to Chastanet, architectural personnel from the Ministry of planning have been brought in to assess the situation and move ahead with the project.

He adds that funding for such a project which is expected to begin by the end of the year has already been identified.

Upon completion of the project, the Prime Minister hopes to engage the services of support agencies such as the Castries Constituencies Council and the TEPA office in an effort to help vendors add value to their products.

According to the Prime Minister, the goal is to make the market a welcoming place for both locals and visitors.
