St Lucia has sprung into action to assist with the restoration effort in Dominica immediately following the passage of Hurricane Maria.

According to Acting Prime Minister Lenard Montoute, preliminary reports indicate widespread devastation which calls for immediate attention.

Montoute disclosed that St Lucia will be used as a hub to coordinate the relief effort to Dominica and that plans are already underway to attend to the most pressing needs. This he notes will include the deployment of medical personnel as well as search and rescue teams.

The effort is being supported by the government of Venezuela, in an attempt to transport aid and relief into Dominica via helicopter and military aircraft.

Meanwhile, at home, the acting Prime Minister has been explaining the reason for his decision to declare a delayed start to business today as well as the closure of school today.

Acting Prime Minister, Lenard Montoute, also expressed concern over the spread of misinformation and fake news relating to the passage of Hurricane Maria. Chiding those responsible he has urged them to desist from such a practice
