Preparations for the hosting of the 2017 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers are in high gear as officials at Events Company St Lucia get set for a sponsors check presentation ceremony today.

The annual race which into its 30th year starts off in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ends at the IGY Rodney Bay Marina in St Lucia.

The end of the race is marked by a series of events to welcome mariners from around the world who participate in the nautical race. The idea, according to Leila Williams is to provide additional visibility for St Lucia and to boost its appeal as a preferred tourist destination.

A flotilla which starts from the Rodney Bay Maria is also set to take place and marks a symbolic start to the ARC.

Today’s presentation which takes place at the Bay Gardens Hotel is a demonstration of appreciation to the partners who come together to make the ARC possible every year.

Williams points to the benefits of the ARC to the island over the thirty year period, noting that the marina sector has developed significantly because of the ARC.

The yachts in the ARC race are expected to begin arriving here in early December.
