Renewed calls for legislation that will prohibit revenge porn have come from a local group that advocates for the rights of women and children.

Raise Your Voice St Lucia’s Secretary Catherine Sealys says the situation is becoming more widespread with no repercussions for those who choose to distribute footage or images of their victims who may be engaged in sexual acts.

The issue has come to the fore following the most recent circulation of such videos.

Sealys has described as disturbing the silence of the Minister for Gender Relations on such an issue where women are often the victims.

She however notes that efforts are under way to draft legislation in consultation with the Thomas Reuters Foundation that will bring to justice those responsible for the circulation revenge porn material.

Sealys is hopeful that once the draft in completed, the government of St Lucia will find it worthy of being on the law books.
