The December Festivals opened this weekend with the staging of the Lantern competition at the National Cultural Centre, a showing that organizers have described as impressive.

That's according to Marketing officer at the CDF Medalese Breene who noted an increase in the number of new junior entrants in the contest this year.

She stressed that the CDF is encouraged by the emerging trend and is looking forward to a continuation of fresh participation in such a longstanding tradition.

Meanwhile, the festival of Carrols took place in Jacmel on Sunday providing a platform for a number of chorals and choirs from around the island, to ring in Christmas melodies.

The winners of the lantern competition will be announced on December 12th at the Festival of lights.
