The Airport Redevelopment Project was among the major topics being debated in the Upper House today, as government seeks to borrow 400 million dollars to fund the expansion of the Hewanorra International Airport.

Among Senators supporting the bill was Mauricia Thomas Francis who appealed for government to be swift about redevelopment thrust.

She pointed out that after much discussion on the project it is time for action on what she described as the window to St Lucia, who’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism.

Meanwhile Opposition senator Gubion Ferdinand noted that while the airport redevelopment project is important, such a venture is a massive undertaking by the government alone.

He has however questioned the urgency with which the project is being handled, pointing to the deficiencies in other critical areas which do not require such a huge investment.
