The St Lucian public has come in for high praise as Police report a quiet festive season over the new year period between December 31st and January 2nd.

The disclosure comes from Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations Frances Henry, who was on duty during the Assou Square Activities in Castries.

She noted that while the resources of the police were stretched because of the increased activities in the out-districts, the events were relatively incident free.

ACP Henry also noted that apart from a minor disturbance at the Gros Islet Roman Catholic Church during the Ole Years mass, there were no reports of incident at any of the other parishes. Precautionary measures have been heightened following the Cathedral massacre 17 years ago, that resulted in the death of two people and injuries to dozens more.

Going into the new year, ACP Henry also spoke to the objectives of the Royal St Lucia Police Force especially following a record number of homicides in 2017.
