A local businessman and his son have been arrested by police after they were found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police reports indicate that officers attached to the Major Crimes Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department on Tuesday 6 August 2013 executed a search warrant on the property of Davidson Ernest, owner of Ernesco Inc situated at Cul De Sac, Castries.

During the search, the officers recovered a 9mm pistol and eight rounds of 9mm ammunition in an office belonging to Davidson Oliver Ernest and his son Travis Davidson Ernest of Sans Souci, Castries.

Both individuals were subsequently arrested and charged for the offences of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. They appeared before the First District Court in Castries on Wednesday 7 August 2013.

They were both bailed in the sum of $5000.00 on the charge of Unlawful Possession of Firearm and $2000.00 on the charge of Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.  This could either be cash, suitable surety or land documents.

The matter was adjourned until August 23, 2013.

In other news the public has been invited to attend a Town Hall Meeting at the Gros Islet Secondary School Auditorium later today for an audience with the St Lucia’s Police Commissioner.

This is the fourth in a series of meetings called “Meet the Commissioner”. It is an interactive town hall style meeting where community members are given the opportunity make suggestions and to voice their concerns

So far, the Commissioner has met with community members of Mon Repos, Babonneau and Marchand. Tonight’s meeting is scheduled to begin from 6pm
