The newly installed Governor General Sir Neville Cenac had a message of peace and unity for St Lucians.

It came during his address to those present at the Parliament Chambers on Friday as he re-introduced himself to the people of the country.

Sir Neville who becomes the island’s 9th governor general urged St Lucians to forget about political allegiances and band together in the same measure as they did for Dominica in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Recalling an assurance that he gave during his tenure as president of the Senate promising to be impartial, Sir Neville stressed that the sentiment remains as he assumes the role of Governor General.

The governor General reminded those whom power has been vested by the people to exercise it with a soft touch and a sure hand.

Between a few light moments in his presentation, Sir Neville recognized his wife, Julita Cenac, whom he referred to as “my girl,” for her support through their marriage of over 40 years.
