One man is currently in police custody assisting with investigations into a suspected drowning.

Police say the incident occurred on Saturday 21, December 2013 about 2:30 p.m. when officers attached to the Vieux Fort Police Station responded to a report of a suspected drowning at the Dengue, Vieux Fort.

A search of the water commenced immediately and sometime later, a motionless body was recovered. The body was identified as that of  Ronald Moffat also known as Yellow of  Belle -Ve- Dere Hill, Vieux Fort.  He was pronounced dead on the scene by a Medical Practitioner.

The deceased was last seen at a residence on Bridge Street, Vieux Fort about 2:25 p.m. At the time, he was in a confrontation with a male over an alleged burglary which took place in the area.

Investigations into the incident continue.
