The St Lucia Red Cross Storage building in Vigie has incurred major damages following an early morning fire.

Initial reports from the St Lucia Fire Service indicate that the blaze started in an inactive ambulance which was parked near the building.

The fire reportedly spread from the emergency vehicle to the storage area. As a result, the contents of the building have been lost.

This comes at a time when the St Lucia Red Cross and other emergency response agencies have been working tirelessly to bring relief to those who have been affected by the Christmas eve deluge that flooded several parts of the island.

Fire officials have not commented on whether or not the fire was the work of an arsonist, as is being suggested in certain quarters.
