The Minister of Tourism, Heritage and the Creative Industries Lorne Theophilus and Director of Tourism Louis Lewis on Thursday met with members of the media to brief them on the state of recovery of the industry following the heavy rains on Christmas Eve.

The Minister first off expressed regret over the loss of life as a result of the weather system which also claimed lives in neighboring St. Vincent and caused widespread destruction in other Caribbean islands.

According to the Minister, much dialogue with industry partners have been conducted and reports indicate that all of the island hotels had leading tourism establishments had weathered the system relatively well, with little to no disruptions to normal operations.

He was quick to express sympathies with the many hotel employees, several of whom had their homes affected by the weather system but still showed up for work.

The Minister informed that despite the situation which saw sites and attractions closed on December 25, all major attractions were reopened on Boxing Day.   He noted that despite the damage done to the island's infrastructure, which was recovering apace following Tropical Storm Tomas in 2010, life on Saint Lucia was again quickly returning to normal.
