The United Workers Party, in its efforts to assist citizens who suffered significant personal losses during the passage of a surface trough on December 24th, 2013, has activated its welfare arm to seek relief supplies from the local population and the Diaspora.

In light of these unexpected adverse effects of the inclement weather on Christmas Eve, the UWP and its Women’s Arm have taken the opportunity to write to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony, requesting exemption from Customs charges including Value Added Tax (VAT) specifically for relief supplies.

It is expected that relief supplies such as water, clothing, non perishable food items, school supplies, household items and toiletries will be granted exemptions by the Government of St. Lucia.

But the UWP says it awaits word from the Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony regarding exemptions with much urgency so that the party may begin to offer non partisan assistance to the people of St. Lucia in these difficult times.

The United Workers Party takes this opportunity to thank the Government and People of Trinidad & Tobago for their generous donation of relief supplies to the people of St. Lucia.
