The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Service and Gender Relations through the Division of Human Services and in collaboration with the St. Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) is in the process of developing a National Parenting Manual for St. Lucia.

On that basis a parenting conference which is receiving participation from a number of partners is being held today in order to broaden the participation towards the realization of this Parenting manual.

Last week, some key stake holders, such as the various governmental agencies with responsibility for having direct interaction with children, participated in a one day consultative exercise to commence the process of writing this manual.

The Director of Human Services Elizabeth Louis pointed out that the conference will also focus on parenting for differently-able children.

The conference which took place at the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary school featured guest speaker Dr Stephen King
It is hoped that this Manual will serve as a National Parenting tool which can be considered as best practice.
