The President of China on Taiwan Ma Ying Joeu addressed members of the St Lucia Parliament today in a historic sitting of the House of Assembly.

St Lucia and Taiwan have shared diplomatic relations since 2007 when the United Workers Party took office.

Since then the island has been the recipient of several grant donations which have funded a number of projects around the island.

President Ma delivered his message to the parliament this morning through an interpreter.

The Taiwanese leader who was grateful for the opportunity expressed that his country had worked hard under his leadership to earn world recognition after years of being regarded as a renegade state.

The government of St Lucia re established diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 2007 and have continued to maintained the relationship
