The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relation has completed the first draft of a National Health Sector Policy, which forms part of the health sector reform process.

The National Health Policy will govern the functioning of the Health Sector and provide a framework for planning and decision making in health for all actors in the health system.

The policy aims to address five main areas including the need to strengthen the governance and management of the health sector, guide investments in health, promote wellness, ensure access to a range of services which will be provided through an efficient and effective network of services and support systems, and Strengthen national resilience in support of health actions and family and individual responsibility for health

The Ministry of Health has begun a series of stakeholder consultations throughout the island from February 3, 2014 to February 10, 2014.  The department will be meeting with various government agencies, faith based and civil society based organizations, various councils and trade unions.  

These consultations will capture critical issues which will be used to strengthen the policy and ensure that it reflects the needs of the population and specific groupings.
