As organizers of activities to mark St Lucia’s 35th anniversary tie up loose ends, a call has been made to get youth involved in the history of the nation.

The call was made by Senior Policy Analyst in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr Anthony George who was one of two guests featured on Tuesday’s newsspin program.

He says while St Lucia and its leaders have achieved much over the 35 year period, it is not being amplified year round. He explains that, this may be what has perpetuated the view that there is an absence of national pride in the youth.

Dr George has also pointed to efforts by the government to put partisan politics aside, as the nation prepares to pay tribute to Sir John Compton.

A series of activities which will take place at Independence City Beausejour, have been planned to observe the 35th independence anniversary.

Logistics Manager with Special Responsibility for Independence City Philip Sydney who was also featured as a guest on Tuesday’s Newsspin program notes that the unveiling of Sir John Compton’s monument is historic, and a clear recognition of the significant contribution he has made to the development of St Lucia.

The theme for this year’s independence is In Unity and Dedication for the Good of the Nation.
