The Saint Lucia-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) has adopted a Plan of Action for 2014, the year of its Tenth Anniversary. It’s also set to expand its activities island-wide, to establish new sub-committees and to move to take People-to-People Relations between China and St. Lucia to a new level.

The decisions were taken at a special Extraordinary Annual General Meeting of the SLCFA held on Saturday February 15th at the CSA Centre, where a new leadership was also elected.

Saturday’s meeting heard a report on activities of the SLCFA since 2013 and also discussed a proposed Action Plan for the rest of this year, starting with a special statement to mark the 35th Anniversary of Saint Lucia’s Independence. The activities planned include establishment of zonal branches and local committee in all 17 constituencies across the island.

The SLCFA also plans a series of workshops this year on ‘How to do Business with China’ and ‘Development of Tourism Links between China and Saint Lucia.’

To achieve its 2014 goals, the SLCFA has agreed to the establishment of new sub-committees to include an Economic and Business Arm, Youth/Students and Children’s Committees, as well as Sports and Culture Committees. A special section will also be created for Honorary Members who have represented Saint Lucia at various international events in China.

The association also plans to pursue a long-standing goal of establishing a Caribbean Federation of China Friendship Associations to unite associations in the English-speaking CARICOM and OECS, the French and Dutch-speaking Caribbean islands and territories, and other states washed by the Caribbean Sea.

Meanwhile, the new Executive Committee elected comprises: Earl Bousquet (President), Priestly Louison (Vice President), Malcolm Alexander (Treasurer) Elizabeth Ferdinand (Secretary), Kaycee Alcee (Assistant Secretary) and Ava Marius as the Culture and Communications Secretary.
