Charges have been laid against one man of Morne Du Don for Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Controlled Drug

Ricardo Anatole of Blackstars appeared before the First District Court in Castries on Monday, to answer to the charges.

Anatole pleaded guilty to all the charges and was fined a total of $5000.00 each on the firearm and ammunition offences and $500.00 on the drug offence. From the total amount fined of $10,500.00, he was ordered to pay $4000.00 forthwith and the remainder to be paid by a given date.

Anatole along with a 15 year old student was arrested on Friday, February 28, after a search warrant was executed on a residence at Blackstars, Morne Du Don.

The student was released without being charged.

In more news, officers attached to the Marine Unit - Vieux Fort, on Tuesday, reported intercepting a pirogue named “Jehovah” about four nautical miles southeast of Moule A Chique.

During a search of the vessel, approximately 174 pounds of dry plant material suspected to be Cannabis were recovered. Six men were also present on the vessel, two of which are Vincentian Nationals, and the others St. Lucians.

The men were subsequently arrested and taken into custody for drug related offences and are expected to be charged shortly. They are scheduled to make a court appearance before the Second District Court in Vieux Fort on Friday, March 7, 2014.
