Health Officials here have released the results of an emergency post mortem examination conducted on the body of a crew member who died aboard a cargo vessel bound for St Lucia from Guyana. The announcement was made during a news conference held at the conference room of the Ministry of Health earlier today.

Senior Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Sharon Belmar George disclosed that the report revealed respiratory failure due to complications from pneumonia.

She noted that crew members aboard the vessel continue to remain quarantined and that their health is also being monitored.

Dr Belmar says the Ministry of Health is in contact with their regional and international counterparts in monitoring the situation. She also revealed that plans for the departure of the vessel, which was scheduled to leave St Lucian waters will have to remain on hold until further investigations can be conducted.
