The Director of yachting in the Ministry of Tourism has raised concerns about a vexing issue that continues to plague the growing sector.

Mr Cuthbert Didier has called for an end to visitor harassment and acts of vandalism and robbery of the vessels which are anchored near our shores.

The call comes following the brutal beating and slaying of Roger Pratt who was vacationing in St Lucia with his wife Margaret.

Didier says the efforts of tourism officials making such heavy investments to market the island as a preferred destination will come to naught if citizens continue to jeopardize the safety of property of visiting yachtsmen. There are two areas in particular where the problem is most acute.

Mr. Didier has called for greater responsibility on the part of citizens to police the problem. He  notes that the St Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority must also shoulder part of the blame where the security of visiting yachtsmen is concerned.
