Noted Saint Lucian poet, playwright and producer Dr Adrian Augier is scheduled to deliver a reading from his latest publication “Navel String” at the Saint Lucia Consulate in Manhattan, New York City next week.

Navel String ‘complex, confident and always accessible’ is a collection of poems that reflects life in the Caribbean, its politics, culture and social history. It follows Augier’s defining work – “Bridgemaker” that confirmed his place in the literature of the contemporary Caribbean.

The reading forms part of a Special Literary Event featuring Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. For this special literary event, poet and playwright Derek Walcott will be joined by the Trinidad-born poet Mervyn Taylor and Saint Lucian poet and producer Adrian Augier in a program entitled “The Search for Self in Caribbean Literature: Past, Present, and Future.”

Last October Augier received an honorary Doctorate from the University of the West Indies in recognition of his contribution to Caribbean development and culture. He is also the 2010 ANSA Caribbean Laureate for Arts and Letters, and in 2009 was presented with the prestigious NDATT Caribbean Cacique Award for his contribution to the development and integration of Caribbean Theatre.

Tuesday’s reading will be held at the Consulate in Manhattan from 6:00 p.m.
